Mr. Whiting grew up in the U.K. where he began sailing at the age of seven. He began building and racing small dinghies when a teenager and quickly moved into keel boats and long distance ocean racing. His racing experience includes an Atlantic crossing, Bermuda, the Pacific, the North Sea and English Channel and many trips to the western coast of Mexico and Central America. His cruising and delivery experience includes the Caribbean, South America and the Pacific Northwest. Rick currently holds a 100 Ton USCG license with sailing endorsement. He has eight years experience as a yacht broker. He is experienced in restoration of wooden boats and currently lives aboard a 40’ Atkins ketch. His education in liberal arts includes a master’s degree in cinema. He has more than 20 years experience in the film industry. In the 1990’s, Rick became a USCG licensed Master and works as a captain for numerous vessels in the San Francisco Bay area as well as a delivery skipper on trips in the Atlantic, Pacific and Caribbean. He is also a marine surveyor affiliated with SAMS. Mr. Whiting has amassed the experience of 100,000 sea miles. |
